I’m Rapha Vargas, a Brazilian photographer and audiovisual artist whose work is shaped by a diverse international background. My journey in the arts has taken me across cultures, fueling my fascination with the passage of time, identity, memory, and the dynamic interaction of forms and textures.
I graduated in Audiovisual Arts from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina and completed a Master in Fine Arts at Umeå Art Academy in Sweden. My background in film production includes directing, cinematography, and editing, blending academic insights with hands-on practice to create work that’s both experimental and technically refined films and photographs.
I explore both analog and digital media, with a particular passion for the tactile and evocative qualities of the film material. My work often focuses on movement—whether through the natural rhythms of the environment or the subtleties of human interaction. I aim to capture fleeting moments in ways that resonate, inviting viewers to experience the depth of a moment often overlooked.
I have worked as a technician for film festivals such as Festifreak, Espacio Queer, and Umeå Film Festival. Additionally, I have experience as a light technician in theater, further enhancing my understanding of visual storytelling.
Throughout my career, I’ve been involved in exhibitions and collaborative projects across the world. I’ve also enjoyed teaching and mentoring, using my experience to inspire others in photography and audiovisual storytelling.
